ANTINOUS AS THE SLEEPER ENDYMION
SIRED THE 52 MAGICAL LUNAR PHASES

ON World Sleep Day ... the Friday before the March Equinox ... we honour Antinous the Moon God as Endymion.

There are several versions of the story of Endymion and the Moon.

In all of them, he and the Moon become united in love for each other.

He sleeps eternally bathed in moonbeams, guarded by animal spirits associated with lunar deities: Selene, Diana, Artemis.

Pliny the Elder mentions Endymion as the first human to observe the movements of the Moon, which (according to Pliny) accounts for Endymion's love.

In other versions, he is the son of Jupiter/Zeus and the personification of the Moon's Magic on Earth. He sired 52 children with Diana/Selene ... the 52 Lunar Phases of ANTINOUS MOON MAGIC.

GEMINID METEOR SHOWER THIS WEEK
MAY BE THE YEAR'S VERY BEST

AMAZING meteor shower this week! Go outside about 20:00 hours (8 p.m.) and look up to see the Geminids ... meteors shooting out of Gemini. The Geminid meteor shower appears every year about this time and is our best shooting star display, with more than 100 meteors appearing each hour. Sadly, if you live in the Northern Hemisphere the winter weather makes viewing bad. But if you are lucky enough to live in the Southern Hemisphere, you have a perfect view on a clear summer night!

THE LEONID METEOR SHOWER
BRIGHT FIREBALLS IN NOVEMBER

ARE you ready for a good, predictable meteor shower? Then break out your favorite skywatching gear because the LEONID METEOR SHOWER shower is already sparkling the skies.

In the pre-dawn hours on the mornings of November 16th-19th, the offspring of Comet Temple/Tuttle will be flashing through our atmosphere at speeds of up to 72 kilometers per second. You can expect to see dozens of meteors an hour.

ANTINOUS THE MOON GOD will not greatly interfere with fainter meteor trails to keep you from enjoying early evening observations, or enjoying your morning coffee with a handful of "shooting stars" which will be emanating outward from the constellation of Leo.

The Waning Moon is not going to be a major interference, so we could see a rate of about 20 per hour.

Although the Leonids are regular and occur at the same time every year, the are highly variable from one year to the next ... sometimes producing few meteors and other years lots.

As our Earth passes through the dusty matter left over from a broken-up comet, it may encounter a place where the comet let loose with a large amount of its payload ... or it may pass through an area where the "comet stuff" is thin.

We might even pass through an area which produces an exciting "meteor storm" like the Leonids produced in 1883!

For those in the know, the Leonid meteor shower also made a rather incredible appearance in 1866 and 1867 ... dumping up to 1,000 shooting stars recorded even with a Moon present!

It erupted again in 1966 and in 1998 and produced 3,000 (yes, 3,000!) video recorded meteors during the years of 2001 and 2002.

But remember, human eyes may only be able to detect just a few. And the numbers vary from night to night.

If you want to see the Leonids, it might be good to watch the nights of November 16th through 19th. Instead of just going out one night, you might want to go out twice.

Look for ANTINOUS THE MOON GOD and he will be shooting lion-hunting arrows your way.

THE ICARUS ASPECT ENABLES YOU
TO SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND SOAR

THROUGH the ages, any audacious youth has been compared to Icarus, whose desperate attempt to escape the Minotaur's Labyrinth turned out rather differently than he and his father Daedalus had planned.

He escaped all right ... but in his elated exuberance, he soared a bit too high.

Today, children are taught the myth of Icarus as an admonition to children to be obedient and not take risks.

But in ancient times, Icarus symbolized audacity. Icarus could have stayed in the labyrinth and grown old and died.

Instead, he spread his wings and took a great leap of faith.

And ... for one brief, soaring moment ... he was free!

Ever one of us has felt this scary elation when coming out of the closet. It is risky ... disaster could ensue ... but it is better than wasting your life trapped in the confinements of a dark closet.

Now Jupiter will be in Aries for the next 12 months to urge you to strap on your wings and fly away to new heights.

Yes, of course, a certain amount of caution and navigation is necessary.

But the important thing is to take a flying leap!

If you have been dithering and fretting for the longest time about taking some risk in order to achieve a long-cherished dream ... then now is the time when the planets will give you the confidence and derring-do to accomplish it.

Antinous the Gay God is telling you go ahead, jump, take the plunge, dive in. Don't just sit there thinking about doing it ... DO IT!

Now JUPITER IN ARIES is saying be ready to take risky, bold steps to wing your way to new freedom (as happened to Daedalus).

In Light and Life and Fluttering Feathers,
HERNESTUS

ANTINOUS THE ASTEROID IS A NEIGHBOR
WHO COULD VISIT US WITH A BANG

JUNE 30th is International Asteroid Day ... and if you look hard you can see Antinous ... or rather with Antinous the near-Earth asteroid, which could one day pay us a visit ... with a bang.

The Antinous Asteroid … officially called "1863 Antinous," was discovered in 1948 by an American astronomer named Carl. A. Wirtanen.

Astronomers had known for some time that asteroids were plentiful between Mars and Jupiter. But no one had expected to find any in the Inner Solar System ... certainly not near Earth.

But Wirtanen turned his Lick Observatory telescope inward and discovered eight asteroids in our own vicinity.

These Inner Solar System bodies are called "Apollo Asteroids" all named for Classical deities, including of course Antinous.

Apollo Asteroids are collectively named after the first one to be discovered. The asteroid "1862 Apollo" was sighted in 1932 and then lost until 1973.

Apollo asteroids are so small and faint that they are difficult to see except when close to the Earth.

Astronomers fear 1862 Apollo may one day strike Earth, however, they currently do not expect 1863 Antinous to hit Earth … assuming it does not stray from its current admittedly erratic orbit.

Antinous is about 2 km (1.2 miles) in length and spins on its axis one revolution every seven hours. It takes more than three years to orbit the sun.

Antinous Asteroid is a "Mars Crosser" and also an "Earth Crosser" or even "Earth Grazer" planetoid ... meaning it crosses the orbit of Mars and also the orbit of Earth ... and comes very close to Earth.

Antinous came close to the Earth in 1992 and 1999 ... 18 million miles (30 million km) and it is supposed to come past Earth again in the 21st Century ... but hopefully won't hit us!

A collision with an "Apollo Group" asteroid 65 million years ago may have been one of the causes of the extinction of the dinosaurs. A closely related group, the "Amor Group" of asteroids, come close to Earth but do not cross its orbit.

The art of Asteroid Astrology is very arcane ... only a minority of astrologers employ "Astrals," as astrologers call these planetoids ... and then usually only a couple of major ones such as Chiron and Lilith.

Quite honestly, they are so new that astrologers haven't quite agreed on what they mean.

The whole focus on asteroids got a boost when astronomers officially down-graded Pluto from a "planet" to a "minor planet" or "dwarf planet" ... the same category to which Chiron belongs.

So astronomers and astrologers alike are having to take another look at their definitions as humankind's knowledge of the cosmos grows by quantum leaps.

TONIGHT ANTINOUS THE MOON GOD
BLUSHES AS HE KISSES MARS

TONIGHT promises to be one of the darkest and most tragic times in human history when the Sun is in 180-degree opposition to Retrograde Mars during a Total Lunar Eclipse even as Mercury is standing still in space and turning from Direct to Retrograde. Because Mars is Retrograde (going "backwards" as seen from Earth), long-buried conflicts and resentments from the past will flare anew.

Mars is aligned in conjunction with the Moon and in opposition to the Sun ... for the first time in decades!

The Cold War could return with a vengeance. The threat of nuclear annihilation could take on new life. In your personal life, an old dispute with your neighbors or with your ex-lover could come home to visit you again.

This configuration occurs while Mars is at its closes to the Earth, meaning the War God's energies are at their strongest. Meanwhile, this Total Lunar Eclipse occurs during the AQUARIUS FULL MOON.

This is the summertime moon of generous gifts which we associate with Antinous/Vertumnus, the shape-shifting God of summertime bounty and generous gifts. We call this the DONUM MOON when magical rituals are performed for fortuitous gifts.

Antinous was worshiped in ancient times as a lunar deity. So when you look at the face of the moon, you are looking at the face of Antinous ... he is the Man in the Moon.

Tonight he "blushes" as the Red Planet Mars hovers near his face.

No, of course, Mars will not be as big and bright as the Moon. The photo at the top of this page was taken from a tabloid news report. It is a hoax.

Nonetheless, Mars will shimmer like a red ruby next to the Blood Moon Eclipse.

And the astrological configurations are inauspicious, to say the least.

However ... these croakings of doom mean that you should put off all major decisions and hide under the bed for a month or so.

As Emperor Hadrian knew, astrology is not intended to scare people. Hadrian was obsessed with astrology. He knew that astrology is intended to serve as a monitoring system or an early-warning system.

An astrological warning is like seeing a "Sharp Curve Ahead" sign on a dark roadway. Antinous the Moon God doesn't expect you to slam on the brakes and stop in the middle of the road and break down into sobs of fear at the steering wheel.

No, he wants you to proceed with due caution, using the experience and skill you possess as a driver.

Our religious leader ANTONIUS SUBIA looked at the Full Moon and Mars a few hours ago and said:

"I saw it last night and it took my breath away, I had to stop and take a long look at the stars.

"Mars looked like a little ruby next to the brilliant moon, which was surrounded by a halo of silver light.

"To the right was the constellation Orion, lying on his back.

"The Moon and Mars reminded me of an Egyptian Moon Crown.

"I Love Mars...yes, I love the War God...I know, we're supposed to prefer Peace, but for some reason...I find the War God to be amazingly beautiful.

"I totally understand why Antinous wants to kiss him, and form 'conjunction' with him."

THE NEW STAR OF ANTINOUS

ON December 1st we remember the day in 1999 when a New Star was discovered in the Constellation of Antinous ... a celestial portent for the rebirth of the religion of Antinous in the 21st Century.

It reminded us of that dark night 1,800 years ago when grief-stricken Hadrian looked up into the heavens with tearful eyes and saw a new star in what had until then been the Constellation of Ganymede.

Hadrian proclaimed it the STAR OF ANTINOUS and renamed the constellation after Antinous.

Flamen Antonius Subia sees parallels to the new discovery which coincides with the re-establishment of the Religion of Antinous for the new Millennium and writes:

"In 1999 on December 1st, a Super Nova was discovered in the constellation Aquila, visible with the naked eye. It was confirmation that the ancient celestial event criticized by Dio Cassius as a lie might indeed have occurred, prompting Hadrian to redraw the map of the constellations and include Antinous among the immortal heroes of antiquity.

"This new star named by astronomers Nova Aquilae v1492 was a sign of the return of Antinous in the modern age. It was a signal to begin the reconsecration of His sacred religion.

"The light of this new star passed over the face of the Earth, illuminating the hearts of all those who believe in him, effecting change and demonstrating those whose eyes were directed towards the heavens that the voice of Antinous was beckoning, and the time to revive his religion had finally come, after so many centuries of silence.

"With this sign from Antinous we are compelled, out of love to inflame ourselves for his sake and to spread the light of the New Star to the world."
