HADRIAN'S WALL NAMED
BEST LANDMARK IN BRITAIN
HADRIAN'S Wall has been voted the best landmark in Britain.
The Roman wall was judged the best entry in the Landmark of the Year category during the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2019.
Judge Eleanor Barraclough said: "Hadrian's Wall isn’t just one of the most important historical structures in Britain, it’s also the one with the most stunning natural setting."
Huer's Hut, in Cornwall, was named runners-up with Pakenham Water Mill, in Suffolk, was third.
The decision bolsters efforts to restore parts of the Wall which are crumbling due to neglect and government funding cutbacks. Emergency monies from the BRITISH LOTTERY will help save Hadrian's Wall.
