The First Jewish War (circa 70CE under Vespasian/Titus), which seriously challenged Roman domination of the Middle East, was followed 45 years later by the Lucuas Jewish Rebellion (circa 115CE under Trajan). These savagely impacted on Hadrian's era yet Rome was relatively willing to let sleeping dogs lie. Yet the repeated widespread Jewish uprisings culminating in the 2nd Jewish War (circa 132 under Hadrian), with their continuing threat to Rome's bread-baskets in Africa & the eastern Mediterranean, plus important land trading routes through Palestine to Syria or the Arabian Peninsula to India & the further East, were strategically & economically unacceptable to Rome. When coupled with the cultural divergences between the Roman & Jewish societies (religion, circumcision, allegiances, etc,) the grounds were set for a conflict whose thorough historic resolution was ultimately inevitable. After 65 years of conflict, the sheer might of the Roman war machine put an end to the debate, & Hadrian's armies dispersed the Jewish population from its homeland for virtually 1800 years.
George Gardiner
author "The Hadrian Enigma" (Amazon USA etc)
George Gardinerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13155595304649065836noreply@blogger.com
